Can I ask why an x299 build instead of a z370? The i7 8700k is clocked higher, higher turbo than the 7800x, still 6 core 12 threaded, and the build price will be close to equal.

just wanna see what the lowest you can spend to get into the HEDT space

HEDT stands for high-end desktop correct? (googled it)

an i7 8700k is definitely a high end desktop component.

Usually HEDT is higher core and thread count(i.e. Threadripper or the x299 platform)

The i7 8700 has the same 6 cores with hyperthreading with a much higher turbo speed for a lower price than the 7800X and can use a much lower priced B360 board.

I think he is keeping in mind a possible future upgrade with the x299 board maybe?
