how to get 144hz on msi rtx 2080 gaming x trio

So I got a 2080 and it does not have a VGA port on it, and even with a HDMI 2.0 cable it only lets me set it to 60hz in Nvidia control panel. Would a HDMI to VGA adapter work for me or is there another cable I need?

Is the monitor set to run at 144hz in Windows?

What Monitor?

And No using a VGA would only limit you in refresh rate.

The monitor is an Acer GN246HL and my old GPU was a gtx 1070 and i had 144hz with a VGA cable

1070 never supported VGA output.

And iirc VGA limits at 85hz for its refresh rate anyways.

DVI or HDMI.

But In both cases You need to ensure Windows isn't limiting You to 60hz as it defaults at.

I dont have the option to even select 144 on the Nvidia control panel, and when I create a custom res on it (doing native but manually changing refresh to 144) I get a "Input not supported" error on my screen.
