What kind of CPU should I get?

I currently have the AMD FX(TM)-4300 Quad-Core Processor. I want my pc to run games like assassins creed odyssey and rainbow six siege smoothly. I've never upgraded a pc before, so I want to make sure that I purchase a compatible replacement, ideally under 200 USD (assuming it will work). Any advice is appreciated :)

A FX 9590 is the best CPU but unless you have a high end board you will want a fire extinguisher handy, I'm not kidding either. It will straight up kill lesser VRM's and cause spontaneous combustion. And even then it will likely match a ~$60 1200 at the very best and likely worse. That isn't account for ~$50 on a cooler either.

AM3+ really has no viable upgrades path and its not worth investing money into 8 year old tech. You won't get the performance you want, going to be heavily lacking in features, and after you get a low end FX 9590 you have literally no where else to go since depsite its poor performance it is the best CPU for the socket.

The logical solution is to sell your CPU/board/RAM and get a new CPU/board/RAM.

best way is to go used Prebuilts since they are almost full system minus the HDD

If by smoothly you mean mean console level setting in AC Oddysay, than most definitely it is possible. As for Rainbow Six Siege ,that game is very nicely polished so even on something like 3400g it should work ok. Or 1200 + some entry level GPU.

AMD Ryzen esp the APU work best with dual channel Memory.

bad idea to use the dead A320 chipset as there is no longer support for the board from AMD.

so he wont be able to upgrade to the newer CPUs or Overclock the APU if he want to squeeze out more performance

It's a MAX version meaning Ryzen 3000 ready believe it or not and 3400G despite it's name isn't really 3000,but more like 2400G+ or something. It is Zen+ NOT Zen 2

yes i know but if there is a Ryzen 4000 series, AMD will drop support for the board

My B350 has no more BIOS support as well
