Ryzen 5 3600 or 3600x

I know, that the non x is ‘better bang for buck’, however, is it worth it to get a better aftermarket cooler and OC to the same performance? Will this decrease the lifespan? How does the stock 3.6 GHz compare with the x’s 3.8? How easy is that over clock?

I’d say get the 3600 and OC it. The 3600 and 3600x are basically the same chip, except the X variant is pre-overclocked. As long as you don’t overvolt it too much is shouldn’t decrease it’s lifespan by much.

The boost clocks already will push beyond everyday safe voltages to get the most out of each core so there is no overclocking headroom left on either.

To make matters worse AMD no longer validates each core for max boost clocks so you often find yourself limited to lower clock speeds by a poorly performing core.

If you want to overclock just for overclocking then get a first or second generation Ryzen. Just be aware there is generally less then 5% performance to pull out of them.

If you want to overclock and see decent gains Intel is the only option left.

Yeah, no reason to overclock these Ryzen chips. The First gen you can say is worth overclocking since most will make it to 3.9-4.0, which is over single core boost. Second gen and third gen not so much. Just turn off the FPS counter and enjoy your system. Its not going to make much of a difference for a few extra mhz all core boosts.

  • Welp , OC to all core 3.8 is not hard for 3600
