Potential Memory Bus Issue?

Hey all, I’m having an issue. Whenever I load up the system with more than 16GB ram and try to go to quad channel, I get a flashing light on the motherboard indicating a CPU issue and my GPU fans will rev up to 100%. Anyone have any ideas?

Have you installed the Ram on the appropriate ram slots?

When installing the memory, make sure to begin with the second socket of each channel.

In your case:

CPU | Π Π Π Π - Π Π Π Π

Also that's not a quad channel kit. That's a 2x dual channel Ram kit that could potentially run in quad channel mode.

Yes, Ram is installed in the appropriate slots.

I should also point out that the system boots with 16GB in dual channel just fine

My GPU fans will rev up to 100%.

For how long? Does that happen whilst on BIOS or does that event continues in a windows environment?

Just when it’s trying to boot. Only lasts a second or 2.

That's why i asked.

That's a 5700XT strange behavior on that particular system configuration.

Don't bother about that. :)

A motherboard BIOS update may or may not solve that problem.

Last but not least, a GPU BIOS update may fix that problem too. But i would not meddle with such things.

You can break your GPU easily!

That’s what I figured.

I’ve narrowed it down to two potential issues

  • Option A: I’m mixing ram kits. It’s possible they’re not playing nice with each other when put into quad channel

  • Option B: There’s an issue with the memory controller on the CPU.
