Cheap HTPC, please help me

  • Budget: Under 400.00
  • Location: NH, USA
  • Use (gaming, rendering, etc): Kodi, Web Browser Streaming, Burn DVD or Blu-Ray (rather blu-ray), Emulators (old school NES & Sega)
  • Peripherals required (monitor, keyboard/mouse, etc): LAN, Blu-Ray Writer, Audio
  • Operating System required: Unsure

Currently i have a ThinkCentre M58 OEM running Ubuntu, does 720P but space is very limited my 1TB HDD is almost full. I would like to have a HTPC that I can upgrade in the future when needed, must play 1080P, be able to have 2 or more hard drives, would like to burn dvd or blu-rays, currently have 2 tower speakers for my "surround sound" but will be purchasing a receiver and 5.1 speakers so need audio that can accomplish this. If possible i would like to have a horizontal case.

I appreciate you guys taking a look and hopefully building a list for me,

Thank You

i am running a somewhat similar specs of PC for my HTPC setup in the living room.

you can try some light weight linux distros for HTPC setup or just use Windows 10.

As you can see from what others have offered up, $400 (in any currency) doesn't allow for monitors or peripherals. If the budget is quite tight then searching out certain components on the used markets, like kijiji or any local buy and sell, could turn out to be a goldmine.

Thank You guys, helped me alot. I understand its a tight budget, trying to justify 500.00+ dollar build to the wife for a HTPC is pretty hard. Especially since my current HTPC cost me 60.00 on ebay., 4 years ago. ImperiousBattlestar's build list is more the road that will fit me, I took the hard drive out (since my buddy will hook me up with a nice SSD) and threw an audio card on the list and I think im good...

Thank you again!!!
