PSU tier list This FOCUS-PX model is the newest line from Seasonic and ranked A tier per Linustechtips. Do not confuse this with the older "SSR plus" model. The total wattage calculator on pcpartpicker assumes maximum power usage, but you still want wiggle room above that predicted number. Go with trusted brands, such as Seasonic, EVGA, and Corsair. 750W is more than enough for any single GPU configuration + future proofing. As new technology becomes more power efficient, anything above is overkill for the average user. Things to look for are 80+ rated and modular (also 10 year warranty). Power efficiency depends on budget, but I recommend investing in minimum gold rated for quality. I went with platinum because I leave my PC running for almost 24 hours/day. Optimum power efficiency hovers around 50% total wattage use, which goes back to getting a higher wattage PSU. My calculated wattage usage was around 400W, so I went with this 750W unit. I spent more on my PSU because my CPU/GPU run near 100% all day working, gaming, or processing protein folding for diseases/cures. To note, your case's design will determine whether the PSU should be upright or upside down. Due to my case having a PSU shroud and bottom vents, I turned the unit upside down (fan facing bottom for air intake). Seasonic is touted as one of the best brands - silent, efficient, reliable. PSU is a component that you don't want to cheap out on because 1 mishap can brick your entire rig. Better safe than sorry here, and I wanted peace of mind.
