Great quality over kill yes. But you are buying this for the back plate and the front armor. And it comes with all the bells and whistles. Looks great and dust protected.

It is pricey- but damn is it a beast! Great BIOS and too many features to list! It is the heart of your system- and deserves to be in your next rig. 8 fan headers! Easy tweaking settings in BIOS. Beautiful build quality. Armor on front and back. I am so pleased with the looks and performance of this board. The Maximus Here is a tier lower and also a great buy. I love ASUS an their products.

Best motherboard I've ever owned. Hands down. I've been building PCs for almost a decade and a half and the Maximus VII Formula is the pinnacle of features and design, but at a high price. The original reason I bought this motherboard was to support the massive weight of the MSI R9 290x Lightning, because this motherboard actually has a metal backplate. It was a toss up between this and the VII Hero for the motherboard and I'm so glad I opted for the Formula. For further information, boy does this thing ever support the MSI 290x Lightning... I've seen this GPU actually tear the PCI E slots off of some motherboards, or sag almost 20 degrees. With this motherboard, the graphics card has no lateral sag, no vertical sag, and I can't even wiggle the graphics card... it literally feels like it's cemented in place. Consider this motherboard if you are considering anything like Gigabyte Windforce cards, the new MSI R9 390/390x, or the new Sapphire Fury Tri-X. Five out of five stars for sure.

I love the quality of this motherboard! Asus continues to create quality products. The software features are a nice addition and I really like having the ability to easily replace my UEFI firmware chip. The UEFI firmware interface is great and user-friendly.

This Mobo has all the bells and whistles that you could ask for. Awsome looks, fast and powerfull. Only downside that I found was the inconvenient placement for the m.2 and of course the price but besides that an excelent z97. Plus Asus bios is really easy to use and allows great control over your system.

I love the asthetic of this board, the integrated POST indicator was very useful and not a feature you'd think about until something happens to your computer, the wifi adapter/Bluetooth is good however ive noticed drops in internet speed while Bluetooth is being used, the uefi was pretty simple as well allowing a novice like me to overclock with just a couple of clicks. the integrated sound on the board had nice features but i honestly can't say weather its good or not , same can be said about the cross chill feature as ive never used it.

from completed build White beauty (with fiery guts!)

So before even starting this build I was fascinated with the TUF armor ASUS started using in the Sabertooth model I think.

When time came to build my computer I was looking around and came across the Asus Maximus VII Formula, in a YouTube review I think. Needless to say, I fell in love instantly!

The ROG armor gives it a unique look that you can't find easily, even in motherboards today. Plus if you want a black-red build it's smoking hot!

Moving on the specifications, it was at the time one of the best motherboards you could get, albeit on the expensive side. Sure I could have gotten a motherboard with similar specifications for like 70-80% of the price, but come on, we don't make these kinds of builds based on specifications alone.

So to start, it is a very good motherboard technically, using good capacitors and quality parts. It gives you the option for water-cooling which good to have, although I haven't used it in this build.

On the different parts: -The SupremeFX sound card is great as always, excellent sound -The mPCIe Combo III gives you WiFi-Bluetooth that has worked without problem and gives you an M.2 slot -It has a great USB power feature providing you with 5v quick charge -Great features for overclocking as start/stop button, 2 digit led, excellent bios, etc. -10 Sata ports (important if you have 7,8 drives like me :P)

To summarize, it has everything you could ever want from a motherboard and looks cool at the same time!
