You do not need to buy anything, shadowplay is a really good program and very simple to use. Just watch any tutorial for it and it should give you a good overview of it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mTsJ5XoNxBs

You do not need to download anything, if you installed the nvidia drivers for your card you already have shadowplay. At most you will need to go into your geforce experience app and go to settings>General and activate in game overlay. Once it's on you can just set it to medium and use ALT+F9 for recording start/stop and ALT+F10 for instant replay (capture last 5 minutes of your game).

With a couple minutes of fiddling you should be able to figure everything out.

Your best bet is Shadowplay, it's the easiest to use. If your in game FPS is dropping while recording then none of these programs will probably be for you since video encoding programs will always use some system resources. The performance hit with Shadowplay is fairly small so you should be able to make up for it by just turning your graphics settings down some. Otherwise your only other option is to buy and external capture card, and they run somewhere around the region of 60 bucks.

I don't really have any complaints so far. It's been my daily driver for about a month and it's been so much nicer than my old S3. One particularly nice feature is being able to go an entire day without charging it and still have at least 50% battery life at 5PM, even on my less er... productive days at work.

It is a 720P screen but in my experience on such a small device it doesn't make any difference.

It comes with the stock android emojis. This isn't really a fault with the phone but the stock android emojis are ugly as sin lol.

I would also recommend getting the case with the kickstand: https://www.amazon.com/Xiaomi-Redmi-DWaybox-Hongmi-Inch/dp/B06XYGWSB3/

I use that thing all the time now.

So I recently went on a phone quest to replace my old galaxy S3. From everything I've looked at I think the Xiaomi Redmi 4x is probably one of the best budget smartphones. https://www.gearbest.com/cell-phones/pp_635898.html?wid=21

I basically got it because reviews said it was fast and did not suffer from any overheating problems. That and it has like a 4000 mAh battery, which is pretty badass.

Comment reply on Forum Topic "Audio editing programs"

Kinda. Certain things can be adjusted (tone, levels, background noise etc) but a the audio quality itself cannot really be improved.

My favorite option for audio editing is audacity: http://www.audacityteam.org/download/windows/ It's free, it's compatible with MP3 and MP4 with the right plugins, and it has enough features for basic audio touch ups which are all I use it for in my videos. Particularly helpful are it's noise removal tool and audio compressor.

One program I have not used but looks pretty cool is voicemeeter banana: https://www.vb-audio.com/Voicemeeter/banana.htm VM banana is essentially a virtual mixing board which allows you to do things like add a noise gate to your microphone, adjust the tone, and compress the audio in realtime(to prevent clipping). These can all improve the general sound of your microphone especially if it picks up a lot of static. Noisegates in particular are helpful because they prevent low level background and static sound from getting in the audio file, these can be removed with audacity's noise removal tool but that degrades the audio quality somewhat.

I'm not sure what the exact numbers were for the previous gens but it's actually a pretty long time usually. Roughly 5-6 years? It all depends on the game obviously, but most games haven't fully swapped over to DX12 yet so I'd say it has a pretty long life ahead of it. Even then, once DX 13 is out most games will have compatibility for 12, much like how most games nowadays have a DX11 mode even if they were built with DX12.

Comment reply on Forum Topic ""Console Shaming" in PC community: does it really exist?"

  • 4 points

I think it depends entirely on what social groups you're interacting with. The younger you go the more people fight about this kind of thing and the older you go the less said people in question care if you game on console or not. Generally speaking the more mature the community the less this is an issue.

As an adult I can afford both a PC and all the consoles and get to make the decision myself, that makes evaluating them based on their merits a lot more objective. PC's have a lot of advantages, but consoles have their place. Just because I choose to only have a gaming PC doesn't mean I look down on someone else for not making the same decision, that would be silly. There are a lot of reasons to use a console, such as ease of use, the lack of risk that your kids will destroy it by installing a virus or deleting system 32, and exclusive games. If I had kids I'd probably start them off on a console just so they didn't break any of my precious computers.

Comment reply on Forum Topic "CPU for 2D animation recommendation"

  • 1 point

I'm not entirely familiar with the programs in question or their optimization, but in general for responsiveness while editing you need single threaded performance, and for rendering you need a high core count or more likely a decent GPU.

If you jumped from the 940 all the way to a 7700K you would see a massive performance increase. According to synthetic tests it would be more than twice as powerful: Link

Synthetic tests generally translate very well to production tasks, so honestly for your line of work I think it's a more than worthy investment. My only question would be if you do a lot of rendering, because then you might potentially want to look at using either Coffeelake or an 8 core Ryzen CPU.

Your premise is fairly misguided for a number of reasons.

First: Liberalism and socialism are not the same thing, and democrats are decidedly not socialist. So it is naive to assume a place like California would become socialist given the actual political leanings of their current admin. I realize it's popular to accuse progressives in the US of being socialist but Democrats practice more of what I'd call "Welfare state capitalism".

Second: Communism and socialism are not the same thing. And they don't kill economies, they kill capitalism. They are tied but it's important to recognize the distinction.

Third: If they actually did become socialist the companies in question would not have a choice to leave because the entire idea of socialist/communist societies is worker owned means of production, which means the assets of the company would be bought/seized by the government. Which as I stated earlier definitely isn't happening because the state government is liberal.

And one small note about the issues in Venezuela, a lot of the problems in Venezuela(and south america in general) are caused by US antagonism. If you want a more in depth look at this issue this is the best video I've seen on the topic: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=le86H7Xfjrc

Cinebench is a great tool to use to quickly test your CPU for both stability and performance: https://www.maxon.net/en/products/cinebench/

Generally to check an OC I will first run CB a couple of times and if it passes that then I use Aida 64.

If you just got into PC building, this is normal. Everyone starts off feeling like they should have just waited to build their PC until such and such product came out. Eventually you just have to get over it, because the fact is any PC you build no matter how top of the line is going to be obsolete within months. So the only thing you can do is make sure that you are happy with your initial purchase and be content with what you have as long as it meets your needs.

They are better for the environment than gas cars, but in general our societies obsession with personal vehicles is way worse for the environment than public transportation no matter what the fuel is. The energy and resources used to make millions of motor vehicles for every individual is still going to have a big impact on our environment even if we only made electric cars.

So it's a step in the right direction but if we were serious about reversing climate change we would be heavily investing in public transportation so every person in the U.S. did not feel compelled to own a car. Of course the chances of that happening here is almost slim to none.

You misunderstand, AMD has the northbridge and south bridge on the CPU package which fits in the AM4 socket. I think this is why they are cabable of long term support for it, because motherboard components that would need to be swapped out for a new CPU are on the CPU die and not the mobo.

I understand why coffeelake cannot be used on the previous gens, but I find it kindof odd that Z370 isn't backwards compatible to sky/kabylake. Doesn't really affect anyone but it's still weird.

Personally I hope that intel copy AMD's move to long term support for sockets by changing from a traditional CPU+Northbridge+southbridge to a SOC. It would make upgrading slightly less of a hassle.

It's possible, sure, but there's almost never any reason to. I would vastly prefer playing my favorite frames in a 4 man squad rather than be forced to play a specific frame so that it would be possible to solo. Interception missions are just annoying IMO, so even though you can solo them that would be insane because it would mean staying longer than necessary in an interception mission.

The answer is a resounding no. Sorry man, as far as I'm aware mobile CPU's are soldered in place and attempting to remove it would probably destroy it. Plus as it's been said, mobile CPU's do not use desktop sockets.

You'd be better off building a new PC or getting a refurbished dell workstation.

  1. It isn't required at all, but it is extremely tempting. It cuts out the hassle of getting orokin catalysts, focus lenses, and eximus slots, but you don't need plat. It's possible to get all those things in game, it just takes time and a little luck. If you really want to get into it, you can accumulate platinum in game by trading with other players.

  2. Most of it... with the exception of certain mission types (like interception) and ones so hard that you practically have to work as a team. Though there isn't much reason to play solo, match making is easy and you can just turn off VOIP, which is basically what I do.

  3. Reach all the planets definitely, after that it's basically up to you. I think it's way more focused on accumulating new weapons and warframes, but that might just be what I like.

I'm kinda shocked no-one has mentioned audacity. I use it all the time for my youtube content, it just has so many good features, especially its audio compressor.

http://www.audacityteam.org/download/windows/

Also: I've tried lightworks and TBH it's my least favorite editor so far. It's terrible for beginners and 720P is really limiting. Hitfilm Express 2017 is free, can do 4K, and is way easier for newbies IMO. It has some drawbacks, like having to do any heavy effects work in a composite shot rather than just on the timeline, but in general I'd say It's a lot more straightforward. There's also davinci resolve which I have heard is good but have never tried myself.

https://hitfilm.com/express

Medibang paint pro is actually primarily a tablet app I've been using to learn how to art, but they also have desktop application which is ok. I'd say it's a lot simpler than something like photshop or gimp, but that's perfectly fine for me since I do not know how to use those programs. It still has a lot of features that I want like layers and transparent PNG export, and TBH I'm still learning how to use it. If you're looking for something a little more powerful than paint this is a good option.
