Comment reply on Forum Topic "Why do people feel like they don't fit in?"

Lack of confidence, there are people who absolutely do not fit in but are completely oblivious to it or just don't care.

It could be that you genuinely don't fit in, but I think it's more likely you're neurotically obsessing over trivial differences to the point where it upsets you. Or you had expectations that this party would make you feel good when in most cases parties tend to be a letdown, especially artificial community events.

BTW I am not trying to be mean, this is just my experience with the why's and how's of not fitting in. It's all in your head, if you can deconstruct down to what's really happening it can help you deal with those negative feelings. I think having the confidence of not really giving a **** if you fit in in just one of those things that comes with age and independence. The ultimate goal should be not caring if you fit in and just focusing on having a good time, but like I said, that will come with experience.

If he were just an ignorant jerk who I disagreed with politically, I could probably deal with it.

What troubles me is that it looks more and more like the Trump admin is concealing some kind of criminal activity in regards to the Russia investigation. They are lying an awful lot for people who are supposed to be innocent, and firing and trying to discredit Comey (Who not less than a few months ago was considered a hero by Trump supporters for reopening the HRC email investigation) was probably the first red flag that pushed the collusion connection from conspiracy theory to there definitely being something going on (though not necessarily related to Russia).

Now that Mueller is heading the special investigation, I feel it is inevitable that Trump fires him regardless of bipartisan support for his nomination or how bad it looks. If whatever he is likely to uncover is worse than the bad press for firing him, it will happen. Who knows what kind of shitstorm that could inspire, though given how comparatively little fuss was thrown at him blatantly firing Comey for not dropping the Russia investigation like Trump wanted (Which he admitted to being his reason during an interview) maybe not as much as one would expect.

My reasoning is that maintaining our current allies is more important than trying to make friends with a hostile nation that meddles with our elections.

What is so difficult to understand about that.

Comment reply on Forum Topic "United States of America - Trump"

The two are pretty related.

Russia is not, and will likely never be, an ally of the U.S. so long as Putin's oligarchy control things. Russia's expansionist policies are destabilizing eastern europe and are completely against the interest of the EU and NATO.

Under Obama relations with Russia were BAD because they were invading Crimea, Ukraine and Georgia. Putin is basically a massive authoritarian ******** who wants to regain former soviet territory and allowing him to accrue power just makes him even more of a threat.

Having a president that sucks up to Putin despite Russia's clear antagonism to NATO is one part of many that makes Trump both a laughing stock and untrustworthy to European allies. Someone so willing to brazenly meet in secret with someone trying to undermine western democracy does not exactly make a good ally.

I have been following politics fairly closely since the election.

He has the composure and dignity of an upset 4 year old.

He weakens America's position globally and endangers our relationships with our allies.

He is a consummate narcissistic, and a compulsive liar.

He has refused to reveal his tax forms (no I do not count the one form over a decade ago), and lied about it being because he is being audited, despite the fact that the IRS said that was false.

He has refused to put his personal assets into a blind trust as he was legally required to, and makes up government positions for him to place his family in. Which is an absolutely insane amount of nepotism.

The most infuriating thing is watching the ever growing evidence of collusion with Russia and not seeing anything be done about it. Trump Jr's emails to Russians trying to get dirt on Hillary: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-fix/wp/2017/07/11/donald-trump-jr-s-emails-about-meeting-a-russian-government-attorney-annotated/?utm_term=.2f7dd93cd3ff

Undisclosed hour-long meeting with Putin at G-20 summit: https://www.washingtonpost.com/world/national-security/trump-had-undisclosed-hour-long-meeting-with-putin-at-g20-summit/2017/07/18/39c18dd4-6bd0-11e7-96ab-5f38140b38cc_story.html?utm_term=.db2ca0be1e44

I'm pretty sure it's safe to say this is 100% not a normal presidency.

This should be your bible for OBS setup: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLT3Ure7_kYHwj8oT3AV-pZ4_r7yp6mDg-

The biggest piece of advice I can give you is switch from software (x86) rendering to the hardware encoder on your GPU. This takes a lot of pressure off of your CPU for only a slightly reduced visual quality and should help with the stuttering. In settings go to your output tab, under streaming switch the encoder from software x86 to NVENC for nvidia or AMF for AMD.

I'm not sure I necessarily agree with you on which has the most robust feature set. It depends on what you want to do. From what I saw when I was looking into it Davinci is a more basic NLE with advanced color correction features. Hitfilm is more akin to after effects and has simple to use effects and advanced keyframing, which is useful for animation.

I'd say if you're looking to do more film-school oriented stuff Davinci is probably better but if you're going to try more advanced FX you might want to give Hitfilm a shot. Either way they are both pretty good editors.

I have never done game dev so I have no idea but I assume it will be fine. Great games have been built on lesser hardware.

I believe intel CPU's have a feature called "Quick synch" for streaming however I have never used it. My advice is watch this video and come to your own conclusion: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jludqTnPpnU

Can't watch the video ATM, but to address his actual statement I think he almost has a point when it comes to the price/performance ratio. If you are strictly talking about gaming, you would be hard pressed to make a build which matches an RX480/FX 8350 for less than $500, which is about roughly the equivalent of the scorpio.

A lot of tradeoffs, obviously. You can't edit videos or comfortable browse the web with a console, but then again you also don't have to worry about malware or your kids deleting system 32. Which make it an ideal choice for kids or people who are not tech-savvy.

The biggest hole I can poke in the "Consoles are a better value" argument is that on PC you don't have to pay a monthly fee to play games online. :P Plus, Lord Gaben has ensured that prices on the PC are almost always lower thanks to insane sales. Given that, I'd still probably pick a mid-range PC over a console but with the xxxboxx One xxxxx coming out (Seriously, why the **** did they change it from Scorpio) hopefully we'll see better performance parity.

Assuming she has a steam account (which she better have since bloody everybody does) You just need to set it up according to the instructions and you will be able to see and play the game on both the pc and the TV.

I have one and usually use it to play couch co-op games with my GF, it's also useful for streaming your desktop to the PC for watching movies n stuff.

Works best at 720P 60FPS with a LAN cable connection.

They throw in Rebel Galaxy for free with your first purchase which I find kinda cool even though I'm not sure I will ever play it. Unlike in the "good old days" my problem is having too many games and having no time to play them.

Kinda veering off topic but I'm a bit jelly that kids these days will get to really dig into games like the Witcher 3, but then again, I got to play obscene amounts of Morrowind/Arcanum/Baldur's gate so I'm not sure I'd trade.

IMO I think if I wanted a good mid range card I'd probably go with an RX 570 4GB: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/bxM323/sapphire-radeon-rx-570-4gb-pulse-video-card-11266-04-20g It's cheaper than the 480 and has more performance than a 1050ti.

That i5 6500 will indeed work for all those things. For recording and streaming, however, it's better to offload those tasks to the GPU which contains a hardware video encoder. Both brands now have pretty good recording/streaming programs that come with their drivers.

If you can scrounge an extra $10 or so I would recommend a Samson Meteor Mic: https://www.amazon.com/Samson-Meteor-Studio-Microphone-Chrome/dp/B004MF39YS

Biggest reason I'd go with this (other than the sound quality) is the ability to plug your headphones into it so you can monitor your voice(which you can turn off with the mute button). I use a Blue yeti with a similar setup and love that I can hear how I sound in the mic unmuffled even while wearing big headphones.

Who here will really buy a 4c/8t or a 4c/4t processor in the same price bracket as 6c/12t and 8c/16t chips that will completely spank them in productivity?

I mean, intel had AMD beat for like 5-6 years. Yes AMD is very competitive with intel NOW but it lagged behind for years. People remember brand names and half a decade of only intel CPUs being recommended for gaming machines. Assume somebody hasn't kept up with hardware news for a while and decides to build a new PC. They are probably going going to buy intel because A) their current build is likely intel and people tend not to change from brands that worked for them in the past, or B) because they half remember some PC building guide from a couple of years back before Ryzen was a thing.

You have to remember that most PC users are not enthusiasts and don't particularly get into the nitty gritty of PC hardware and just care if it works or not.

So for AMD this will be an uphill battle for gaining market share. Luckily for them Intel have been stagnating in the 4 core region for so long that the enthusiast market has been starving for a new CPU.

Comment reply on Forum Topic "Will cpu oc improve frame times and input latency?"

  • 1 point

I don't believe the input lag is affect that greatly by the CPU. Or at least I'm never really seen it accused of such... It can lower your frame-rate, but if you're getting over 60 that cannot be the issue. What may be happening is that you have v-sync enabled. V-sync can cause input latency due to the way it handles frames.

It's all a little above my head as to the technicalities but if you want to reduce input lag while not having screen tearing go to your global nvidia control panel settings and change vsync to "fast" and click save. This mode was specifically design for low input latency without the potential graphical issues of unlocked framerates.

Dying light is only a horror game in so much as the main enemies are zombies and occasionally you have to go into spooky buildings. Actually I'd say it starts off pretty scary when you're low level and have barely any good equipment and fighting more than 1 zombie at a time can be lethal, but as you progress you'll eventually be mowing through zombies like tissue paper. It's a pretty nice sense of progression.

DING DING DING WARNING!

So I have the non micro version of the pro 4 for my r7 1700, and while it has been a pretty good board for overclocking the CPU, it crashes if the RAM is set to anything higher than 2133 MHz. This is not an issue with the ram, I have checked and scanned it and it is stable at 2133. It appears as though despite being otherwise a good board it has some ram compatibility issues. Now, AMD is claiming that a microcode patch is coming that will help fix ram compatibility issues, but it isn't out yet. Since you said you were worried about possible issues with Ryzen this is a pretty big one. Make sure during the windows installation process that you have the RAM set to 2133 or it could cause crashes. Only OC the RAM after everything is set up.

My setup for reference: PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

I have a couple of brands I prefer just off of what I've read/heard about their reliability. Depends heavily on the product as well. Gigabyte seems to have very reliable mobos but some of their RX 480's have been sketchy, apparently. Asrock are another MOBO company I use as they also have a good track record. I typically use G.skill for RAM as they are affordable and generally reliable.

With GPU's I think you're more or less safe with all of them, but I generally shy away from Asus, Powercolor, and MSI(Just don't care for how they look).

With monitors I'm kindof an Acer fan, even though they usually play second fiddle to Asus my first bought-by-me monitor was a 23" ultra light from acer so I'm a bit biased.

AMD or NVidia: While I have a GTX 980 I have to say that if I were looking for a mid range GPU these days I would get AMD... That and a freesync monitor. I just generally prefer AMD's business practices to Nvidia and lately their software support has gotten tons better.

That is merely Microsoft's OEM policy. I don't think they actually enforce it for individuals.

I have actually done this, MS will prompt you to call them to reactivate the key. I have not had a key rejected yet. As long as you stick to one copy of windows for one machine they seem fine with it.

Source: Personal experience, also this: https://forums.evga.com/Win7-OEM-Key-Reuse-Solved-m1091689.aspx

I've moved OEM copies of XP and Vista to new computers that I've built.

When you get to the activation step, you're prompted to call MS. Sometimes I've gotten an automated system and other times I've gotten a live rep.

I explain that I've either had to replace the MB or that I've built a new computer and disassembled the old one. If dealing with the automated system, the main question to listen for is when it asks how many computers this copy of Windows will be installed on. You have to answer 'One'.

I've never been refused an activation. I've always been honest and told them I'm either upgrading or building a new computer and that the old one has been disassembled and some of the parts sold on Ebay and some used in the new computer.

That is ridiculous. Windows cannot "fry" your system... it's software. Anyone saying **** like that has no idea what they are talking about.

OEM Copies of windows are fine. The biggest issue they have is mostly transferability, so in the event you upgrade your mobo or build a new machine and try to use the OEM copy again it doesn't like that. In my experience I have never had an issue with OEM copies of windows having issues transferring or upgrading, any issues you do have can typically be solved via a quick call to microsoft.
