Okay I need to add to this. So though I lost about 100MHz on the CPU OC... this could be my imagination... I don't know enough about PCI lanes and SLI... but I'm pretty sure I'm getting a better overclock on my video cards now that they are both x16. It could be that I just found a magic combination of GPU speed and GPU mem speed, but I'm pretty sure the wall I was hitting moved out a bit since the processor change.
So, the net result is that I'm now seeing a performance improvement with the processor upgrade.
So just tested out this change. FPS actually dropped. I was also getting a higher overclock out of the 5820 (4.7GHz vs 4.5GHz) but that was just silicon luck. But in apples to apples comparisons at 4.5GHz I expected some FPS increase since I was going from x16 x8 to x16 x16, but I didn't notice anything. Now maybe I'm not doing a good enough job benchmarking, and maybe it will make a bigger difference when I go to 3 SLI, but for now, it was a little disappointing since I spent $50 more on the 5930K.
Yeah that's next on the trimmings list.
Yes. Super easy. But I don't recommend using the overclock genie.
Win 10 was a breeze. No issues at all. I couldn't stand 8.
I was going to wait a year and upgrade both 3rd SLI and the uP. But 5930k is only $80 more so I just might do that.
