You should move out and pay a bit of a premium for your sanity and freedom. Personally i think it'd be better if you slept on the floor of a cheap apartment by yourself rather than laying on an air mattress around toxic people.

I'd leave ASAP and if they threaten anything like a fee for something so frivolous like not doing a chore per their terms that weren't laid out on paper, just live in your car for a few days, not sure where you live but if you live in one of the big cities you could live at a homeless shelter for a short while if need be.

If you could make it out 6 months start saving heavily then move out.

Well I am trying to avoid that burn out so I don't lose out on pay.

I get it.

Many years ago I did use energy drinks and they completely messed up my sleep schedule. Tired during the day and can't sleep at night making me more and more dependant on them. I haven't touched one in over 10 years. I find coffee does that to me too but not to the same effect and the teas I trink have 1/5th of the caffeine as coffee does so it is more of the right amount. Especially since I never put sugar in it.

Yep your body is already thanking you for not touching one of those cans of sugar also known as "energy drinks".

My morning workout is riding a bike to work, yes even in the winter even if we get dumped a couple feet of snow. In southern Ontario Canada lake effect snow is nothing new here.

Snow really does suck if you have to actually deal with it on a regular basis.

12 hours each monday, tuesday, wednesday, thursday, friday, and sat. repeat.

That isn't too bad, you'd probably make alot more money and save up for a new ride!

Yeah, I made the mistake of buying a cheap department store fat bike for my main transportation and it has lasted 2 years but after maintaining the bike (full disassembly and rebuild) it is clear it was not made with my kind of use. It has the build quality for someone using it as a casual weekend ride bike or a garage decoration not for 20+ miles a day minimum every single day riding. The wheel hubs are wearing to the point I got another couple of months before they need to be replaced and they alone cost way more than the bike itself. I am saving up for a much higher quality fat bike that can withstand my kind of usage for long term use. I am also factoring costs of much stronger locks as well and I will NOT skimp on that. I basically need to work enough overtime for an extra 2 grand in a months worth of time which is why I picked such stupid hours.

Hey, working hard to deck out your bike, cant rag on that, just wondering if you're gonna use Cycling Builder dot com to build a such a bike or are you gonna buy one from a name brand bike manufacturer?

On a side note my boss did something to help encourage me on my overtime this morning before I got into work. She printed out a picture of the bike I was looking at with a message of encouragement and pinned it to my cubicle wall!

Thats nice of you're boss!

Believe it or not a bike is still FAR better than public transportation in my city for 2 reasons, it is actually much faster and I hate standing still outside waiting for a bus that comes once every 30 minutes or 60 minutes past 9pm or weekends.

I also despise public transport in all the cities i have been in.

Seems like you're going to do well, just keep the chin up and look foward to a future a nice bike you can take anywhere you want in any weather Southern Ontario has to throw at you.

Everything is a million miles apart

Thats the case for every state west of the Mississippi, in the cities its all just non stop urban sprawl, it amazes me that the LA area is so large in land area.

A comically-stereotypical amount of people drive trucks

Around here just about every guy in their 20s has a truck, many of which were bought at $30k+ . Trucks aren't bad but they are expensive to buy and maintain.

Texas quite honestly sounds alot like my homestate, we get the best tacos honestly compared to the other nearby states like California,Nevada or Utah. Southern Californias's taco scene has been so overly commercialized only ritzy rich people eat the grease traps that line the streets of LA. The whole "street taco" fad is a joke and is comparable to tacobell or del taco most of the time and you pay multiple times more money. New Mexico has some good tacos as well but New Mexico is kind of boring outside of mexican food and is like the Michigan of the southwest, nobody moves there unless they HAVE to. The rest of the region has mediocre tacos tbh, especially Utah, their taco scene is sad.

Coyotes are pretty scary if you live in an area where they like to roam, anyways its not uncommon for them to snack out of peoples trashcans at night.

Anyways im glad you mostly enjoyed your trip to Texas, nobody likes a bad trip to a place far away from home.

I dont work in the service industry, but i can certainly relate to overtime, oh boy that was soooo fun.

Longs story short i worked anywhere from 8 hours to 20 hours a day every day of the week for 8 months, we had holidays and i got sick alot during that time ( gee i wonder why ) but it was brutal.

Since not being tired was not an option for me alot of the time especially when the 8 hours a day kept rising steadily i decided never to get into energy drinks. They are a scam and taste like a burning hard drive ( dont ask ) . I also never drank coffee so avoid the crash, i did that in the beginning and the days would last forever and i had daily migraines. Some jokers thought it be a great idea to take "certain" hardcore drugs that are known to get you hyperactive, seeing them literally run in circles made an otherwise boring night shift mildly not boring, until they put anyone in danger of getting hurt. Obviously dont try any hardcore drugs but i have a feeling very few people on PCPP do so anyways.

Next i get up about 2 - 3 hours before a shift and eat breakfast or whatever was in my fridge that wouldn't hurt my stomach. Do warmups usually 15 - 30 mins, take a short jog and try to accomplish as many of my daily tasks as possible so i dont have to deal with them. I found this not only wakes me up but also keeps me from thinking about only food the first part of the shift and for some reason getting up at odd hours of the day or night never really bothered me, especially if it was consistent.

Now when it comes to burn out, i just constantly thought about what i could do with the money i was making and putting it towards life goals. The work i was doing also involved alot of manual labor and not alot of time to think.

Also what are back to back shifts?

That is interesting. I wonder if any of the bonfires have ever gotten out of control before. It is literally playing with fire on a mass scale.

Makes sense for most to not play with fire, if they dont learn how to contain it. Toffee apples and roasted chestnuts sounds very festive to me, and Ive never seen either before.

Why would people be afraid of sparklers? I have never seen anyone get injured by one and if you go to the fireworks stores you can buy them all year.

Perhaps the strangest aspect of Bonfire Night for those unfamiliar with this particular British tradition, is the custom of making effigies of Guy Fawkes to be burned on the bonfires. Prior to burning, these effigies were often made by children who would parade them through towns and cities collecting money, though this has become far less common today.

Thats weird, he must have been really bad for many of generations to build effigies of him and burn them year over year. Just shows how interesting the worlds many cultures are.

You're more likely to receive a PC with malfunctioning parts when you buy a prebuilt like cyberpowerPC or ibuypowerPC than building one. Just watch this video because its an in depth guide on to build a basic PC, even if you buy a prebuilt i just hope this video will help alleviate some of the fears you have about building a PC.

Now i have a part list that might sound enticing because it should provide an all around 30%+ performance boost for probably less than the alienware you got. PCPartPicker Part List

Type Item Price
CPU AMD Ryzen 5 3600 3.6 GHz 6-Core Processor $194.00 @ Amazon
Motherboard MSI MPG X570 GAMING PLUS ATX AM4 Motherboard $159.99 @ Walmart
Memory G.Skill Ripjaws V 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4-3600 Memory $109.99 @ Newegg
Storage HP EX920 512 GB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive $61.99 @ Newegg
Storage Seagate FireCuda 2 TB 3.5" 7200RPM Hybrid Internal Hard Drive $79.99 @ Newegg
Video Card XFX Radeon RX 580 8 GB GTS Black Core Edition Video Card $169.99 @ Amazon
Case Cougar MX330 ATX Mid Tower Case $41.99 @ Amazon
Power Supply EVGA SuperNOVA G3 550 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply $94.99 @ Amazon
Prices include shipping, taxes, rebates, and discounts
Total $912.93
Generated by PCPartPicker 2019-11-26 22:11 EST-0500

I prioritized value for money and quality parts over looks and raw performance, I could give you another list if you want the best performance possible for 1500USD.

Whats your price point? And Country?

Personally i'd probably upgrade the alienware if possible with a better GPU, 16GB of RAM and a cheap 120 or 240GB SSD with maybe a 4th gen i7 down the road for a nice boost to its thread count. It'd probably be your cheapest and least stressful option.

You could buy another prebuilt but you are paying a premium for a computer that is already up and running. But at least you could get a pc going in the shortest time possible.

Or just build a new custom PC from scratch because you have a lot of options as a consumer at the moment.

There is something nostalgic about older PC builds, probably because back in these days you either chose looks function or price with a lot of people choosing the ladder two because looks were a lot more expensive to prioritize back then.

Coming from the person that spent $100 on LED fans i probably could've waited until black Friday or cyber Monday personally.

Since when did billionaires wear the same stuff every day?

There's Steve Jobs and Zuckerberg but not too many others come off to the top of my head.

A pair of levis for informal pants as levis last forever, in larger families a single pair can be worn by several different siblings and go through many days of being outside in the rugged terrain before ever tearing a hole. For shirts, just any T - Shirt made out of a high enough quality that'll last you a while and is comfortable to wear.

For formal just a Tux that isn't a pain to wear for long periods of time ( rare i know ) and a clip on tie as most people spent more time tying their ties than at most formal events anyway. With a nice pair of black pants and shoes.

Thanks, hes still going strong! Anyways the reason why i didn't do much cable manage is for ease of access, my grandparents aren't necessarily computer experts and if they or someone else tries to to fix the PC ( usually plugging cables back in place ) behind the desk they dont have to worry about a bunch of tied of cables and cords being a nuisance and potentially cutting off any cords that could damage the computer or even worse, themselves.

They live about 12 hours away so i cannot visit them on a regular basis if they have any problems they're gonna have to rely on what i taught them as well as their family members who also aren't computer savy. It was a hard but intentional choice i had to make.

Thank you for taking the time out of your day to look at the build!

Brokerage investment account if applicable in your country, you probably have enough free time to find good stocks and you could start building your net worth before most people even get their first cars. Even small amounts like $100 or less can be enough for you to start earning money with a few hours of research and minimal upkeep.

A savings account would be alright, if its a high interest savings account like robinhood where you get 2% interest and not like the big banks which is usually around 0.03% interest. There are regular ol checking accounts out there with better rates than what the big banks are giving with savings accounts. Otherwise you might as well ask for cash.

Some PC parts or a PC if you dont already have a gaming PC.

Gym membership, obviously not a luxury gym but most cheap gyms are passable in quality.

Steam or console games.

Money to do a side business, the earlier you start the more chances you get to get a successful business, i knew a kid that made alot trimming the hedges off rich peoples houses in HS.

Christmas cookies because those are the best.

But to answer the question, probably; Its hard to say a concrete "yes" or "no" because if this were to happen we today wouldn't know how technologically advanced the world would be at that point.

Comment reply on Forum Topic "What's your opinion on Liquid Cooling?"

Custom loops, while really expensive, if done right provide the best cooling solutions over anything else but that takes alot of research and time, which not everyone is willing to do.

AIO's look nice and are great when your shipping a computer, but are currently overpriced and a decent enough air cooler can usually beat out most AIOs which might cost $50 or more than the air cooler.

Air Coolers make the most sense for most people, if you have a budget and want to be able to upgrade in the future this is the best solution to cool your CPU, a $70 air cooler with $20 of case fans will do as well as a $150 AIO will in almost all cases.

I currently use AIO because i was pulled in by the allure of having a "water cooled" system, and i probably wont get one ever again.

Its also important to realize that the overall price of PSU's have gone up in recent years, largely due to having more power and quality control but also because the cost of manufacturing has gone up as well. You could get a reliable 500w for under $50 a few years back, now unless your buying used or buying OEM its nearly impossible.

Comment reply on Forum Topic "Is it smart to buy a cheap prebuilt and upgrade over time?"

  • 1 point

$1200 will not get you anywhere close to a high end streaming prebuilt PC even with upgrades, at this price point you have to expect locked chipsets both on AMD and Intel builds which will limit your RAM to either 2666MHz or 2400MHz, now im not a streamer personally but the people i know that do stream say RAM speed and timinings are important, particularly on Ryzen systems.

Then theres the PSU issue, cant tell you how many "high end" PC's prebuilt OEM's sell with ticking time bombs, it may be good when you receive it but a bad PSU can take your ENTIRE system with it.

However if you're dead set on a prebuilt, please do your research on each individual model and the sellers themselves as well as the OEMs themsevles and not pick the shiniest "cyberpowerpc" or "ibuypowerpc" without doing any research.

If you have a 2080 i'd agree with Stargazer57 and wait until the next generation of cards comes out.

1080ti is around the same performance as the 2080, has 3GB more VRAM and has more CUDA cores and a larger memory BUS.

That being said the 2080ti is around 30% faster in gaming, has the same VRAM, Mem Bus and similar clockspeeds to a 1080ti whilst also featuring a slightly faster GDDR6 memory speed to the 1080tis GDDR5X. Then there's the Ray Tracing capabilities of the 2080ti but nobody knows how widespread ray tracing will be going into the future.

You can get a 1080ti for right under $500 USD in the used market and it will be a high end GPU for a while.

If you care about ray tracing get the 2080ti whilst also getting better performance than a 1080ti anyways, otherwise unless you're going 4k 144hz on AAA titles a 1080ti is probably more practical, assuming you buy it used.

On a personal note, i have a 1080ti and it demolishes most games at 1440p max details and usually maxing out the 144HZ of my gaming monitor. Plus the only game i'll probably play with ray tracing is minecraft and knowing minecraft my 1080ti should be more capable of running it at atleast 60FPS as long as i dont load it with shader packs.
