Why an Intel chipset vs AMD? I see that the clock speed is faster but it has two fewer cores. Is speed more important for XP11 than number of cores?

i choose the 8700k because it is better than the ryzen line of cpu's at gaming, i would of have choose the ryzen 1700 if you specified you were going to be editing (which you did not in you're original post.)

I've never built a machine with a CPU cooler. Is there a specific reason why you recommended it here?

the 8700k get's pretty hot when it's under load, plus what
Superb_Falcon said was right.

hoped i helped :)

wanted the bluray/dvd/cd drive in case he wants to watch a movie or something on it. It's really not a necessity, but it's only $60

Fair enough.

if I remember correctly is that, for gaming, Intel is better (maybe not much better, but it is better).

yes and no, you see when AMD lunched ryzen it was bad in game's, and developers did not optimize the games for it since it was a new architecture but with bios updates and updates to the game's it became better overtime and now it's almost at the intel gaming level when you overclock the 1500X it will become better than the 8400, unfortunately i could not find a article or video of the benchmark's between them.

Also Intel uses less power than AMD

i did find a power consumption article between the two and 10-12 watts of power not a deal breaker,

Also it's easier to find parts compatible with Intel as opposed to AMD.

please explain more.

and if i'm wrong i am sorry, i'm still learning.

And why not go for AMD?. and you do not need a CD drive for gaming everything is digital, steam, gog, origin, etc. and here is a different case.

i was gonna go for the 1700, but OP is not gonna be editing only playing game's and the 8600k is better at gaming then the ryzen line of cpu's, if he is gonna be editing (which he/she did not Specify in their original post) i would choose ryzen instead.

The CPU cooler is 99$ the CPU is almost 170$... and i added the CPU cooler cause It's quite the beast when it comes to cooling and it is cheaper than corsair's H115i and has more CFM.

It's fine if you want a red case go head there is also a red version, i don't know i choose it for better cooling and it matches the build, if you want to change the card to the EVGA go ahead there both great card's. and yes EVGA does have better customer support.
