Thank you for clearing this up because as I mentioned before that I would check the stores website and some people would comment it's for OEM and others would say it's for Retail.

I just want to make sure...

Comment reply on Forum Topic "External DAC For A 5.1 Speaker Setup?"

I don't need it for anything else but for gaming and I'm using Logitech for my gaming speakers. I checked around and I couldn't find anything for a DAC where I could just plug it into the PC and plug the speakers into it so I decided on getting an internal sound card from Sound Blaster.

Comment reply on Forum Topic "Online Stores Compensate Earlier Purchases On Black Friday/Cyber Monday?"

Maybe I could have worded it differently and no, I haven't purchased any monitors yet.

I'm just curious because I know a lot of computers parts don't always go on sale during Black Friday/Cyber Monday. So I was thinking of getting a jump on some of the items I want for my build because I'm seeing them at a lower price than usual.

So if I purchase some of these items this week and I see them on sale next week. Will online stores compensate me the difference if I show them I just recently purchased the item from them?

Comment reply on Forum Topic "Are Sound Cards Still Needed?"

  • 1 point

I've been doing some reading about external DACs and I don't think I want to spend a $1,000 dollars or more for my sound output. I'm sure if I was into the audio/music field than it would definitely be worth it. Spending $150 dollars for a sound card might be a better substitute but if a sound card is not needed than I can skip on getting one.

I am curious... Will the onboard sound ports be OK to use if I ever decide to Twitch or post videos on YouTube or will there be problems?

Thanks again for all the help!

It appears to be something with Amazon because I can order the keyboard from both NewEgg and Best Buy and have it shipped to my address in Illinois.

Thanks for the link...

I believe a lot of sellers are trying to push the 2080 and 2070 cards to make way for the Super cards.

The 2070 and 2080 cards are no longer going to be produced.

EVGA FTW3 ULTRA GAMING is already $1399.99 and the EVGA FTW3 ULTRA HYBRID GAMING is only $1379.99.

I would just use the AIO for the EVGA FTW3 ULTRA HYBRID GAMING on the back fan since I'm setting up the Corsair H150i PRO 47.3 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler across the top 3 fans.

I haven't built a PC in quite awhile and I have never built a PC with watercooling so I'm not sure about jumping in and trying to set it up, much less setting it up with a GPU. I have selected to use the Corsair H150i PRO 47.3 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler but that doesn't relate to the GPU.

I do see listed the EVGA FTW3 ULTRA HYBRID GAMING which appears to come with a AIO cooling fan and costs about the same as the EVGA FTW3 ULTRA GAMING.

It's been said before that the GeForce RTX 2080 Super is going to be better than the GeForce RTX 2080 but it will not be as good as the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti.

For prices and specs, check out NVidia's site... https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/geforce/20-series/?nvid=nv-int-s9-96498#shop-all

I'm waiting the benchmark numbers myself but early speculation is saying that the 2080 Super will be better than the 2080 but not as good as the 2080 Ti.

NVidia has already said that there will not be a 2080 Super Ti and July 23rd is supposed to be the release date for the 2080 Super.

I am in the midst of building a new system and I decided to wait on getting a RTX 2080 card to see what the benchmarked numbers are for the new NVidia cards.

If I'm impressed with the numbers then I'll decide on either a 2080 Super or spending the extra dollars and get a 2080 TI. The prices will also weigh in on the choices.

I have a feeling that the benchmarked numbers for the 2080 Super are going to be bouncing in the middle between the 2080 and the 2080 TI. We should see these numbers in about two weeks...

I didn't know about this so I will probably give this a chance. I just hope Microsoft doesn't think it's any foul play and deactivate the key. You said it worked for Windows 10 Pro but I was looking into using Windows 10 Home. Do you think the multiple activations will work with this OS?

Ah peripherals! The options are ridiculously many...

Damn you, LIVE_AMMO and I mean that in a good way. As soon as I check out a few keyboards and a few mice. You have to come along and give me more choices to pick to rack my brain over. All the links you supplied are adding to my list and I'm double checking and reviewing everything because I just don't know which one I want now.

I was mostly looking for a decent mouse and keyboard to handle all types of gaming but also to be used for typing and streaming. I'm still using a Logitech G15 when I built this computer back in 2007 so all these fancy keyboards and mouses are really going to give me more research to do.

Thanks again for the help...

I decided to go with the https://pcpartpicker.com/product/fBvbt6/acer-predator-x34-340-3840x1440-120hz-monitor-x34-pbmiphzx

Sure, it's $50 bucks more but the response time and the refresh rate make up for it.

Only thing I need left is a mouse, keyboard and headset and I'm all good to go...

As far as thermal paste goes you can save a few bucks by using the thermal paste that comes with the cooler and not buy any extra. Generally thermal paste that comes with a high end cooler is generally decent and getting the "top of the line" thermal paste may only improve temps by like 1c at best.

This is good to know... I can remove it from my list.

My main NVMe SSD has a couple of my most played games and windows installed and my second SSD is for a scratch drive when doing video editing. My HDDs are bulk storage and backup for all the media that I store on my PC. I have a second HTPC hooked up to my PC and the 120gb SSD is the boot drive and the 275GB SSD is where I install some steam drives to but I can access my HDDs over the network to play any video I got stored on my main system.

This is what I want to do. I want to have my main NVMe SSD for windows and basic install needed and either a second SSD or second HDD for games, backup or anything I'm looking to save and get to later.

LIVE_AMMO, I checked out what you suggested and appreciate the help.

I originally selected a Gigabyte Z390 AORUS ULTRA ATX LGA1151 Motherboard but in your setup, you selected a ASRock - Z390 Taichi ATX LGA1151 Motherboard. Is this just your pick of Motherboards or is there something wrong with the Gigabyte Z390 AORUS ULTRA ATX LGA1151?

I'm keeping my main drive as a M.2-2280 Solid State Drive where I'll install Windows, etc. but I think I will add on a 3.5" drive for everything else I want to store such as games, etc.

Funny you mention the MSI GeForce RTX 2080 8 GB GAMING X TRIO Video Card because that was my first choice for a video card before changing it.

Are you planning on purchasing a display too? What are you looking at? If you have one already, resolution or display model number?

A new display is going to be added to the list soon and I was looking at the following:

https://pcpartpicker.com/product/fBvbt6/acer-predator-x34-340-3840x1440-120hz-monitor-x34-pbmiphzx

https://pcpartpicker.com/product/vhkwrH/asus-monitor-rogswiftpg348q

Unless there is something flat screen LED TV out there that's just as good and cheaper...

Also besides gaming and streaming, what else are you planning to achieve with this rig? The 64GB system RAM suggests some pretty intensive enterprise level workloads!

My first setup only had 32GB system RAM. I figured if I wanted to be gaming and streaming at the same time then 64GB would be better so there would be no lag/slowdown or anything in the system. I'm not into video editing or graphics so my main objective with the rig would be gaming, streaming and maybe posting to YouTube.

You have given me something to think about now...

I was thinking about dropped all 3 SSD I have listed and just going with the Samsung - 970 Evo 2 TB M.2-2280 Solid State Drive. It's more expensive but it makes up for it in speed.

I wanted to switch for faster loading times but the 500 SSD would be for the operating system, etc.

I also wanted to go with a 2 TB SSD for games, videos, etc. but I noticed that a 2 TB SSD is way more expensive than just getting 2, 1 TB SSD. If load times are decent then I can always decide on dropping these and getting a SATA drive.
