+1 Great looking everything. Cool to see a budget including the desk monitor chair and everything!

Sidenote: I have the fractal R4 windowed and I have a bottom intake PSU fan. It is very important that if this is the case for you, you do not allow it to be directly on carpet. It can pick up carpet fibers over time and compromise your PSU. (It's something I didn't consider until I had my machine for a few months)

Edit I just saw that little roll cart thing. Well played sir

The 6600K is barely faster without overclocking and since I am using the stock cooler, overclocking would not really be an option. Also the 6600K does not come with a stock cooler so I would have had to buy a CPU Cooler. In an effort to keep it around $750 (after putting in the used GTX 960 that I have since installed), this was the right CPU for the job. The price difference at the time betweent he 6500 and the 6600K was about $40. Then after adding a 212 Evo, at the minimum or something better that, I would be about $70 over cost.

Another side note is, I earned all of this computer using nothing but overtime hours in a little under a month and a half, so 750 was truly all that could be drummed up :)

Hope this answers your question :)

This giveaway has me daydreaming about what I could do if I won. I am blessed enough to have built a PC for both myself and my wife, but my brother is not quite as fortunate. Throughout our entire lives, my brother and I have spent a lot of time as friends as well as a lot of time at odds. The one thing we've always been able to do together no matter where we're at is game. We still do it to this day on occasion, but his rig limits our time together. He is gaming on a laptop (I know), and one that has trouble playing most of the newer titles at all. And now, he is getting married in March! So saving for his own PC is likely even further out of the question. I have dreamt of being able to present him with a beautiful rig I built for him for a while and gaming together in at least the glory of 1080p at 60 frames on some big titles.

If I won: If you have checked out my account yet, you should have already noticed (unless you're new to all of this). The PC NZXT is graciously giving away is vastly more powerful that either of my humble rigs. (never though $1200 would get me humble until I met the PC master race). Nonetheless, as my first rig ever, mine still has far more sentimental value to me than a new one did. If i were by some miracle to win this, I would be delighted to unbox, take some pictures, assemble, set up and give my brother the best Wedding gift he'll ever receive.

If you made it all the way through, thanks for listening to my story! Hope you enjoyed. (don't usually talk much here)

Hey, I have one of the fractal R4's and I removed the second bracket full of hard drive trays and I like how it turned out. You may give it a shot and see if you like it. I believe it just takes 4 screws to get done.

i5-6400 =>i5-6500: +25$ Agreed, large noticeable difference in performance Z170 => B150: -30$ Agreed, Z170 not necessary for this build, very little difference PSU : I would check out Johnny Guru to pick a powers supply. Chillsabre is right: you really only need 450-550, and for $60 you can have an excellent PSU for that.

The only thing I might add is a bit more Solid State. Not only would a 240GB SSD give you more Space(Obviosuly) but it is also proven that a similarly spec'd one with more space will run noticeable faster) you can get to the 240GB mark for 20$ which I realize would put you 8.53 over your goal :( but perhaps this is negligible to you?

And you don't need 800 horsepower to get you to work, but people still love it. Just because something is far beyond capable of performing its desire task and the task could be completed with a smaller budget does not make it a waste of money.

A waste of money would be something like oh I don't know, 128GB of RAM with a tiny processor and no graphics card designed for gaming. There you could argue that the performance is bottleneck not by ram but in other areas thus the ram is a waste. In this case the person has built an acceptional and rather balance PC that simply exceeds its need.

I'm assuming you have your new Ram set to run at 1333 and not overclock under any conditions right? Beacuse, unless I'm mistaken, ram at different speeds can create blue screening.

This is going to seem strange considering the variety of things there are to be impressed with/jealous of, but I'm really jealous of that nice little bookshelf that the computer fits on perfectly. Since I built my computer with the Fractal R4 Full ATX (Massive Case) I have had it under my desk on my desk, next to my desk.... Can't seem to find the perfect spot haha.

Beautiful build!

Don't sweat it man; Car manufacturers have been working on building better cars for decades and they still have massive inefficiencies. And Windows 10 still slams all of my desktop icons against the left regardless of where I try to save them!

So what I'm saying is there may have been some choices that would configure for a better overall bang for your buck, but you built a beautiful computer that your daughter will love!

If I can make a recommendation, I learned a lot by preparing my system build and then posting my perspective build on a variety of forums including this one to let people give me all of this criticism before hand. It helped me greatly. But anyways, I think you've got a lovely little rig there!

It's definitely concrete. Questions for anybody. If I have my PC on a wooden platform I made about 6" off the ground where carpet lies, am I presenting any added risk with a downward facing PSU?

Yeah. 960 makes no sense for this build. It makes sense for a build at this price level: My wife's build

And even then if she had any interest in playing modern games I would have spent more.

Couldn't agree more. I think the only issue is that the phrase "i7" sells. People of the masses are uneducated on computers to the point where they legitimately say "1700 for a computer and it doesn't even have an i7?"

I know it sounds ignorant to us (because it is), but if it is the overwhelming perception that it is scary to not comply with it. Therefore this company may see it as a risk that might hurt their sales to correctly configure this rig.

But the r9 390 is nothing compared to the r9 390. However I can see your point, because if your plan to use the r9 390 on 4k resolution it will outperform the r9 390.

Eh, he may not have seen a large difference in performance while gaming, but the i7-6700k feels soooo good. My wife's computer has the i5-6500 (not overclockable) and I have the i7 6700k and mine does just seem to have an edge in general use. Other variables are there (I have more ram and a bit better GPU) but I think the i7 is still a valid choice. Plus, the CPU is usually about the last thing to go bad in a system so why not put some extra money in it. It will be with you for a long time and you can potentially re use it in a later build.

I think your build is beautiful and your i7 choice is not misplaced.
